Music for a Summer Evening
This musical evening was to a packed audience and we were entertained by the “City of Truro Male Choir” of around 30 singers, who were Directed by Russell Pascoe, composer, conductor and teacher.
The songs, beautifully sung, were enthusiastically received by the audience. After about eight songs there was an interval with wine and nibbles, which were all included.
Immediately prior to the interval, I spoke briefly to remind everyone that the event, which was held on the 6th of June, was also significant for two reasons, as it was not only the anniversary of “D Day” but also Mr Horace Dorrell’s 102nd birthday, who was there with several members of his family and friends. Horace is a much loved and respected member of the Friends and also the Cathedral, where he regularly worships. Everyone joined in with the choir to sing Happy Birthday to him.
The second half resumed, after we were all suitably refreshed, with further most entertaining singing from the choir and finished with a final song where they performed actions with some odd sounds along with some nifty footwork. I was unaware until then, that our retired Dean, Roger Bush who was part of the choir, was so nimble on his feet!
Although not exactly “a summer’s evening”, weather wise, all agreed it was one of the most enjoyable evenings we have had for a long time, and would be a hard act to follow. I heard later the choir retired to a nearby hostelry where the locals were further entertained until closing time.
We look forward to a future evening with the City of Truro Male Choir.
