Visit to Saltram House

Wednesday 23 July was a beautiful summer’s day and a group of 17 Friends travelled to Saltram House, a National Trust Property, on the outskirts of Plymouth.

Before commencing the tour of the house the group were fortunate to be given a very interesting and informative talk by the Property Curator Zoe Shearman.  There are a good number of rooms open to the public each with an experienced guide to answer any questions visitors may have.  The highlights include Robert Adam’s neo classical Saloon, exquisite plasterwork ceilings, original Chinese wallpapers, ceramics and a remarkable collection of paintings including many by Sir Joshua Reynolds and Angelica Kauffman.

After visiting the house and lunch at either the Park Cafe or the Chapel Tea Room some of the group explored the beautiful and varied garden complete with surviving 18th Century building and features.  It was generally agreed by those attending the visit that this was a thoroughly enjoyable event.
